"Serving
as a distribution point for statistical
information concerning Texas A&M
University-Kingsville and Texas A&M
University-System Center-San Antonio."
The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) was established in June 1990
to provide information to the University Community. The office was
also established in preparation for the ABEST Accreditation visit in
1991 and the SACS Reaccredidation visit in 1994. At that time, the
office acted as a clearinghouse for most information and data requests
needed for internal and external reporting. The office also assumed
responsibility for developing and implementing the institutional
effectiveness process on campus. As part of these responsibilities, in
the spring of 1992, OIR began collecting, compiling, and disseminating
all information and survey results for the university's self-study for
reaffirmation of accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) visit in April 1994.
Since its inception OIR has gone through several name
changes, reported to the Provost, the President on two different
occasions, and to several Vice Presidents. The office has added
positions and lost positions. As of January 2004, the Office's name is
back to Office of Institutional Research and reports to the Associate Vice
President for Academic Affairs.
